History
We were established in 2001 to meet the need of Latin Americans for independent and professional advice in their own language, as well as to encourage Latin Americans to understand the culture and society of the United Kingdom and promote co-operation with non Latin American organisations to enhance integration.
We started in Ilford in East London in a Church Hall and soon out grew the space available before moving to locations in Leytonstone and Hackney before changing the way we provide services to a drop in session and telephone based service.
Our clients initially came from London but increasingly we have referrals from outside of London including the North of England, Scotland and Wales.
Furthermore with the migration from Spain of Latin Americans who are naturalised Spanish we have referrals from Spain and Latin America.
We set up a project in Bogota, Colombia with a view to offering a way out of poverty and the need for migration to a group of children in a very disadvantaged area.
Our Mission
Our aim is to offer advice and support to all who come, regardless of age, gender, race, sexuality or ethnic background as a practical expression of our faith and beliefs.
We offer a holistic person centred approach helping our client group to overcome the particular issues they present and to reduce their need for further help and advice.
Where we work
The Hispanic Welfare Association is based in London and we are pleased to offer our services by telephone, e-mail and in person through drop in sessions.
We have clients that contact us from across the United Kingdom, Spain and Latin America by telephone or e mail.
Financials
The Hispanic Welfare Association is a registered charitable organisation. We are committed to upholding the highest standards of financial accountability, integrity, and transparency.
We comply with the Charity Commission’s requirements for the Charitable sector and for Charity’s working overseas.
All of our funding comes from donations from users of our services, we receive no support from governmental or other organisations.
The Trustees are concerned with ensuring that operating costs are minimal and that the charity will continue to operate in the future, despite uncertain times to deliver services to our client group.
Our latest annual report and accounts are available on the Charity Commission website.
